Tragedy strikes at Torremolinos Beach Club, Spain

By Tim Grover in Holiday Accident and Travel Claims on Thursday, October 22, 2009

I am normally writing about the Torremolinos Beach Club Hotel in Spain because of their terrible track record of sickness and food poisoning outbreaks. However, I am writing today to report a far more tragic circumstance that has happened at this much maligned hotel.

Andrew Henderson, a young British holidaymaker, sadly died earlier this year after falling from the fifth floor of the hotel. Andrew had gone away with friends to enjoy a weekend break in Spain and after a lengthy drinking session fell while attempting to hop between his balcony and that of his friends.

This week the Daily Mail reports the coroner returned a verdict of death by misadventure and he goes on to say that this type of situation is all too common. He warns about the dangers to holidaymakers of drinking for prolonged periods of time and the increased risk taking that can ensue. The consequences, as we can see here, can be catastrophic.

During the course of my work I come across many holiday tragedies ranging from debilitating sickness, serious injuries and often death. Holidays are important and exciting occasions and holidaymakers should enjoy themselves, just make sure you make safety a priority.
