Bullying allegations at the Tower of London

By Jonathan Royle in In the News on Monday, November 2, 2009

It has been reported that two male yeoman warders, or "beefeaters", at the Tower of London have been suspended following allegations of bullying and harassment by a female colleague, and a third is currently under investigation. Moira Cameron, who has made the complaints, is the only female warder at the Tower of London. Her appointment in 2007 was high profile as she was the first woman to be appointed to the post in the Tower's 900 year history. Full details of the nature of her complaint have not been disclosed. Another person has reportedly received a police caution for defacing Ms Cameron's entry on the online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia.

There are 35 warders at the Tower of London, all of whom are ex military personnel and all of whom, except Ms Cameron, are male. It remains to be seen whether any action will be taken against the alleged harassers however it is likely that the case will continue to attract public interest given Ms Cameron's position in what has traditionally been a "male only" military role.
